SSO 8/27

The Utilities Board of the City of Foley experienced multiple sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) on Thursday of this week. The sanitary sewer system was hydraulically overloaded as a result of approximately 4-inches of rain in a 6-hour period in addition to previous rainfall totals.

The location of the SSOs and the potentially affected water bodies are listed below:

Pebble Creek Lift Station – located at the end of Melbourne Court in the Pebble Creek Subdivision (Bon Secour River).

North Alston Street – between Section Avenue and Carnation Avenue (Wolf Creek).

County Road 20 – just west of Hwy 59 (Bon Secour River).

Azalea Lift Station – at the intersection of West Azalea Avenue and South Pine Street (Bon Secour River).

The Utilities Board of the City of Foley responds to overflows in a manner consistent with state and federal standards. We urge residents to exercise caution using these bodies of water for recreational purposes, thoroughly cook any fish or seafood caught in these areas, and thoroughly wash their hands after handling any fish or seafood from these areas.

If you have questions regarding these SSOs, please call us at (251) 943-5001.
