SSO 8/25

Riviera Utilities experienced a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) August 25, 2020, on Underwood Road (CR24) just west of US 59 and just east of Abacus Drive. The SSO began at approximately 9:00 AM and ended at approximately 1:00 PM. This SSO occurred as a result of storm water inflow into the sanitary sewer system. We received approximately 1.7 inches of rain within a one hour period and over 2.6 inches total for this morning. This rain event caused localized flash flooding which inundated a lift station on Hwy 59 just south of CR24. The overflow of stormwater in to the lift station surcharged the gravity collection system and overflowed at the manhole at the lowest elevation. The SSO discharged to the adjacent stormwater ditch. The total volume of the SSO is estimated at 9,600 gallons.
