(Foley, AL.) - On Saturday, August 2, 2025, the Utilities Board of the City of Foley experienced a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) due to a broken force main located near 19120 County Road 20 in Foley, Alabama. The incident occurred due to a contractor for another utility company damaging an in-ground valve located in the utility easement, resulting in a break. This allowed untreated wastewater to flow out of the collection system. Responding crews promptly isolated the affected area to facilitate repairs, cleaning, and disinfection.
1. Volume: 63,000 gallons
2. Destination: Flow from the broken force main entered into the nearby drainage ditch, which feeds a tributary that ultimately drains to the Bon Secour River.
A copy of the data submitted to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management for this event is attached for reference.
