(Foley, AL.) – On Friday, June 30, 2023, The Utilities Board of the City of Foley experienced a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO). The variable frequency drives for this lift station tripped, which prevented the pumps from operating. This led to a high level that eventually overflowed the lift station. The Standby technician was not notified of the high level due to a communications issue preventing the SCADA system to call out. This station will be monitored and inspected manually until the communications issue is resolved. Plant Operations is setting up a dry prime pump at this location for redundancy.
A copy of the data submitted to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management for this event is attached for reference.
The Utilities Board of the City of Foley responds to overflows in a manner consistent with state and federal standards. We urge residents to exercise caution using these associated bodies of water for recreational purposes, thoroughly cook any fish or seafood caught in these areas, and thoroughly wash their hands after handling any fish or seafood from these areas.
