SSO 1/18

(Foley, AL.) – On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, The Utilities Board of the City of Foley experienced a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO). A sanitary sewer manhole located inside an apartment development adjacent to the Crown Walk Lift Station overflowed. The cause of the SSO was found to be the referenced lift station was not operating. Upon inspection, the pump selector switch for the lift station was left in the “off” position after maintenance had been performed. Once corrected, the Crown Walk Lift station was thoroughly checked and tested and all appear to be operating properly and within the required parameters.

A copy of the data submitted to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management for this event is attached for reference.

The Utilities Board of the City of Foley responds to overflows in a manner consistent with state and federal standards. We urge residents to exercise caution using these bodies of water for recreational purposes, thoroughly cook any fish or seafood caught in these areas, and thoroughly wash their hands after handling any fish or seafood from these areas.

If you have questions regarding this SSO, please call us at (251) 943-5001.
