Riviera lineworkers complete annual bucket truck, pole top rescue training

DAPHNE, AL. April 11, 2023 — National Lineman Appreciation Day, April 18, 2023, is dedicated to acknowledging lineworkers’ hard work and life-long commitment to keeping our communities’ crucial electric utility systems running smoothly and with minimal disruption.

Riviera Utilities lineworkers spend 8,000 hours of on-the-job training in a formal apprenticeship program before they become Journey Lineworkers.

All new hires start as ground workers. Once they are accepted, they’ve got four years of formal in-house training. After four years in the apprenticeship program, they must pass a written test, field test, and sit through an interview before being promoted to Journey Lineworker.

On April 11, 2023, Riviera Utilities broadband and electric lineworkers participated in a training exercise in which they practiced quickly and safely rescuing an employee who had been incapacitated while working on a utility pole or in a bucket truck.

The goal is to complete the rescue in four minutes or less and then start CPR. All Riviera employees are trained and certified in CPR, first aid, and the use of AEDs.

This training is just one of many essential steps Riviera Utilities employees take to protect themselves, their coworkers, and their community. As National Lineman Appreciation Day comes and goes, we encourage everyone to reflect on the value added to daily life thanks to local electric lineworkers.

Riviera Utilities is a public utility company serving the Eastern Shore, central, and south Baldwin County communities. For media requests or for more information about Riviera, please email communications@rivierautilities.com
