Foley (August 10, 2015) - Riviera Utilities is warning its customers to be aware of scams involving utility bill payments in our area. Riviera Utilities has begun receiving numerous customer complaints of suspicious activity involving their utility bill. These suspicious activities were initiated when unknown individuals called our customers, falsely representing themselves as a Riviera Utilities employee. The attempted ploy has happened with dozens of customers from all across our service territory. In many cases, those targeted are advised to pay immediately using any major credit card. Telephone scam artists have tried to persuade area consumers their power may be disconnected unless they give the scam artists personal information. Riviera Utilities does not initiate phone calls to customers demanding immediate payment. These are not valid calls from Riviera Utilities and are not in line with our utility procedures. Riviera Utilities reminds its customers to be guarded with anyone who asks for a payment by telephone. We encourage you to share this scam information with your friends and neighbors.
