SSO 8/29/2026

Foley, Alabama – On Saturday, August 29, 2026, Riviera Utilities responded to a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) that occurred from a manhole adjacent to the Victoria Place Lift Station located near 2919 S Juniper Street in Foley, Alabama. The incident occurred during an afternoon thunderstorm and allowed untreated wastewater to reach a nearby drainage ditch. During the investigation, the Operators found that both pump breakers in the control panel had tripped. This issue prevented the pumps in the lift station from operating properly. At this time, the station is operating on a diesel-driven bypass pump until our Operators can further assess the control system on Monday.

Incident Details:

  • Volume: 4500 gallons
  • Distance to Nearest Creek: About 1.25 miles
  • Final Destination: Boggy Branch

A copy of the data submitted to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) for this event is attached for reference.
