Riviera Celebrates 110 Years With Customer Appreciation Events, Interactive History Experience

FOLEY, Ala. — Riviera Utilities is celebrating 110 years of serving Baldwin County with two customer appreciation events and the launch of a new interactive website highlighting the utility’s history.

Customers are invited to stop by for a complimentary coffee or tea and celebrate with Riviera from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday, October 6, at The Drowsy Poet in Foley, and 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, October 8, at Press & Co. in Olde Towne Daphne.

The events will serve as a launching point for Riviera’s 110th anniversary celebration and a new digital history experience that traces the utility’s growth alongside the communities it serves. Since 1916, Riviera has grown alongside Baldwin County, leaving behind more than a century of history in familiar roads, neighborhoods, businesses, and community landmarks.

The project began with decades-old photo albums filled with photographs and handwritten notes documenting Riviera employees, projects, and places throughout the county. Those notes helped identify where many of the photographs were taken and ultimately became the foundation for an interactive map connecting Riviera’s history to the places where it happened.

The handwriting preserved in the albums also became part of the experience. Riviera recreated it as a custom font used throughout the website, carrying an original piece of the archives into the digital project. Visitors can explore stories pinned across Baldwin County, browse archival photographs, follow key moments in Riviera’s history, and see how familiar places have changed over the past 110 years.

While much has changed since 1916, Riviera remains a locally owned, not-for-profit public utility focused on serving its customers and investing in the communities its employees call home.
