From our earliest days to today, these are some of the moments that shaped Riviera's story.
Twelve street lights.
Twelve 50-watt street lights were installed in Foley, with current supplied by Swanstrom Brothers Saw Mill.
Foley buys a light plant.
The City of Foley purchased a light plant and wired the downtown Foley area.
A difficult early chapter.
The first municipal electric operation ended amid financial troubles. The light plant was purchased by J.B. Foley for $6,000.
Riviera Utilities Corporation.
Private interests operated the electric system, and Riviera Utilities Corporation was formed.
A path back to public ownership.
Alabama passed an act permitting municipalities to issue and sell bonds to buy electric properties.
The Utilities Board takes shape.
On May 30, 1952, the Town of Foley established the Utilities Board as we know it today.
Orange + yellow become unmistakably Riviera.
Riviera leadership researched which colors offered the greatest visibility at night for employees working on the system. Orange and yellow became the utility's trademark truck colors — a safety decision that became part of Riviera's identity.
The Daphne Office.
A permanent Riviera presence on the Eastern Shore as the community continued to grow.
