SSO 1/17


Riviera Utilities experienced a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) event at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the southeast corner of the intersection of County Road 20 and Hickory Street in Foley, Alabama.

A contractor, who was installing a water main by horizontal directional drill for an adjacent subdivision under construction, bored through an existing 8-inch sanitary sewer force main. The SSO occurred for approximately one hour until we could get lift stations turned off and valves closed. The sanitary sewer force main was repaired and the SSO stopped. The total volume of this SSO is estimated as less than 10,000 gallons. The discharge location of this SSO event is the open drainage ditch along Hickory Street from County Road 20 which drains toward the south to County Road 20S.
