SSO on June 21
Wednesday, Jun. 21, 2017
Riviera Utilities experienced two Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO) on June 21, 2017. One SSO occurred at the WWTP (1000 Greentree Lane, Foley, AL) and lasted for 5-minutes (10:44 a.m. until 10:49 a.m.) and resulted in the discharge of approximately 2,000 gallons of partially treated sanitary sewer from Clarifier No. 1. The discharge passed through the UV disinfection system before discharging to Wolf Creek.
The second SSO occurred at the Pebble Creek Lift Station at around 1:07 p.m. this afternoon and is ongoing. We estimate that the SSO discharge rate is approximately five (5) gallons per minute (gpm). At this rate, we estimate the total discharge will be between 1,000 and 10,000 gallons.
These SSO events are the result of increased hydraulic loading due to receiving approximately 8.25-inches of rain in a 36-hour period as a result of the effects of Tropical Storm Cindy.
