In late July 2018 the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority (AMEA), in partnership with the City of Foley and Riviera Utilities, started construction of a solar demonstration array in Foley. This 50-kW project will be used to educate the public about solar power generation and the potential for expanded use in our area. Riviera and the City will partner with local schools to inform students of the various aspects of solar installations as they consider potential career paths. Riviera hopes to combine the output of the array with other innovative ideas such as battery storage and electric vehicle charging stations to demonstrate how these concepts might come into play in the future. The solar array is expected to be online by the end of August or early September.
